Phill Jupitus - Mistletoe in The Bell, 1980

Edited by JODY PORTER

Mistletoe in The Bell, 1980
Phill Jupitus

That Christmas Eve
Emotionally speaking
I was never built
For the events
My resilience seemingly
Constructed by cowboys
On a Friday
On a bank holiday

In weak mitigation
We were both smashed
And so was he
It was nothing personal
Just a bit of fun
To you it was nothing
To me it was everything

That Christmas Day
Listening to 'Absolutely'
Drinking brandy
For the final time
Smiling and crying and singing
'Close Escape'
Realising the chains
That bound us
Were paper
