British families’ energy bills have jumped by 21 per cent since the Con-Dems took power in 2010, House of Commons library research has revealed.
Households are being charged 23.5 per cent more for electricity and 33.8 per cent more for gas.
It’s estimated that has put £221 extra on bills and leaves British families footing among the biggest energy bills in the world.
The figures were revealed in the Independent on Sunday as Labour prepared to renew its attack on the Tory’s energy record this week.
In a speech in Reading, Caroline Flint will say bills have risen four times faster than wages on their watch.
“On David Cameron’s watch, energy bills in Britain have risen faster than almost any other country in the world.”
Ms Flint is expected to repeat Ed Miliband’s popular energy price freeze pledge that the party believe will save families £120-a-year.
