A FIRST set tiebreaker set the tone of Andy Murray’s victory against Ivo Karlovic as the Scot progressed to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon yesterday.
Centre Court fell quiet after a two-set lead was cut to one as 136 aces from the powerful Karlovic looked to begin to get the better of Murray.
However precision won over power and the exhausted Murray sealed a 7-6 (9/7) 6-4 5-7 6-4 victory over the Croatian.
“It was mentally tiring, maybe not as tiring physically due to the points being so quick. You’ve always got to be ready to take your chances. It’s about getting the balance right and getting through. It wasn’t going to be the best tennis, it was about getting through.
“I passed well, and when he missed his first serve I returned his second serve well and made it difficult for him,” said Murray.
A place in the semi-finals rests on Murray beating Canada’s Vasek Pospisil, who knocked out Britain’s James Ward in round three and Viktor Troicki on Monday.
