25/1 Harry to Top the charts in chasing feature

The perfect time to shout from the rooftoops my ante post fancy for the big race

We are exactly two weeks away from Gold Cup day at the Cheltenham Festival and now seems the perfect time to shout from the rooftoops my ante post fancy for the big race.

Harry Topper is a horse that has Gold Cup stamped all over him and although he isn't the most consistent over his fences, if ever there was a race where everything was to fall right it would be the Cheltenham feature.

At 25/1 the bookmakers have underestimated his Gold Cup credentials.

His novice chase career over three miles saw him win his first three starts, including when beating subsequent Cheltenham winner Beneficent in tremendously game fashion at Newbury.

That's a key theme with the selection - his desire to keep galloping.

This was seen when winning the Charlie Hall Chase earlier in the season.

You can forget about his no show when finishing last of three runners at Sandown in December and it's best to concentrate on his sublime effort last time out in the Denman Chase at Newbury.

That performance, where he thrashed Al Ferof by 25 lengths, showed he's up to competing at the top level.

The reason he's currently trading around the 25/1 mark is the perception that he won't relish the dry conditions at Prestbury Park as he's more suited to cut in the ground.

But come Gold Cup day itself - looking at the forecast - the ground will hopefully be riding at its slowest.

This year's renewal is one that is lacking strength in depth and apart from the Nicky Henderson-trained Bobs Worth, who won last year's Gold Cup, at the head of the market there are question marks regarding the remaining runners.

Harry Topper has the make- up to pick up the pieces late on as tired horses flag up the Cheltenham hill.

Get on at 25/1.
