ED MILIBAND won unexpected praise from anti-Establishment comedian Russell Brand in a highly anticipated interview broadcast yesterday.
Consensus broke out between the pair as Mr Brand quizzed Labour’s leader about his vision on his YouTube channel The Trews.
The comic initially sounded cynical about Mr Miliband challenging “powerful elites.”
He said he had never voted in his life because he felt the public had been let down by leaders who promised big change but failed to deliver, such as former Labour leader Tony Blair and US President Barack Obama.
But Mr Miliband said: “I’m not looking for euphoria, I’m looking for a sense of real, concrete, deliverable change.
“The fundamental problem with this country is if people think it’s run for somebody else and the somebody else is probably somebody right at the top of society.”
Mr Brand replied: “That is exactly it, that’s exactly it.“I completely agree with you, Ed. We don’t want some sort of giddy ‘Yes we can’ euphoria, we want a fella who’s going to say … I’m prepared to take on Murdoch, I’m prepared to take on an HSBC, I’m prepared to take on the powerful elites that have got control of the Tory Party.”
Tories criticised Mr Miliband for speaking to a comedian who has urged young people not to vote.
But Labour said the interview would help reach legions of Brand fans — and the video had over 6,000 likes on YouTube as the Star went to press.
