A SEVEN-MILE pink scarf knitted by more than 5,000 people was unfurled between Aldermaston and Burghfield atomic plants in Berkshire this weekend in protest against rumoured renewal of the Trident programme.
The Wool Against Weapons scarf was knitted by groups in Britain but also in Kenya, South Africa, France and other countries.
Organisers Action AWE co-founder Angie Zelter said: “People have to act because the government won’t disarm without people in their thousands taking to the streets.”
The decision on whether or not to keep subsidising the Trident nuclear programme will be taken in 2016.
