Anti-racists mobilise against Ukip threat

ANTI-RACISM campaigners in Yorkshire and the Humber are targeting parliamentary and council seats in the region “at risk” of falling to right-wing Ukip candidates.

National anti-racist and anti-fascist group Hope Not Hate is mobilising in the region, and a new group to campaign against Ukip is to be launched tomorrow.

Hope Not Hate director Nick Lowles said: “In Yorkshire and the Humber there is a real danger of Ukip winning the constituency of Great Grimsby, with the most recent polling suggesting that the anti-immigrant party is just 1 per cent behind Labour.

“We cannot allow Ukip to win.

“We have also identified 66 council wards across the region where Ukip pose a serious threat.

“This will mean we have to run strong local campaigns in North East Lincolnshire, Rotherham, Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster, Bradford, Leeds and Calderdale.”

The meeting to launch a Leeds anti-Ukip campaign group takes place at Leeds Civic Hall on Tuesday, starting at 7.30pm.
