Inmates get onto the roof of their prison

SPECIALIST prison officers had to be called to a prison in the early hours of yesterday morning after two inmates climbed onto the roof of a residential block.

The incident at HMP Isle of Wight happened on the Parkhurst site and ended when the two prisoners were brought down safely.

A Prison Service spokesman said the incident was resolved with no injuries to prisoners or staff.

HMP Isle of Wight, a category B prison, holds 1,100 prisoners and was formed in April 2009 from the amalgamation of the Parkhurst, Albany and Camp Hill sites.
