WOMEN were warned in stark terms yesterday — vote Conservative and prepare to face the lion’s share of cuts.

New evidence on the unequal impact of planned Tory policies that would be pushed through if the party were to win next May’s general election was presented yesterday by shadow chancellor Ed Balls.

A Labour analysis showed that 75 per cent of social security “savings” announced by Chancellor George Osborne this year will be grabbed from the pockets of women.

The statistics drawn from official figures show how unevenly the two-year, £3.2 billion freeze will fall.

Mr Osborne’s “savings” via his refusal to raise tax credits will be 80 per cent funded by women, Mr Balls said.

In total 10 million housholds will be hit by an average real-terms income drop of £320 apiece once freezes to child benefit, jobseeker’s allowance, income support and tax credits were totted up.

“These new figures show how, once again, women will bear the brunt of David Cameron and George Osborne’s choices,” said Mr Balls.

“This follows four years of Budgets which have taken six times more from women than men — even though women earn less than men.”

But Employment Minister Esther McVey ducked the issue when confronted with the figures.

“Actually this government has done a considerable amount to help women in the workplace and I’m very proud of that record,” she claimed.
