PAY CUTS: Staff at travel group Monarch have swallowed pay cuts of up to 30 per cent and suffered changes to working conditions as the company seeks to sell itself to investment firm Greybull Capital.

British Airline Pilots Association general secretary Jim McAuslan said: “Pilots and their colleagues have made major sacrifices to secure the future of this important British company.”

And Unite national officer Oliver Richardson said: “Our members are sacrificing a lot. What is clear is that they remain committed to the future of Monarch.”

SCOTTISH GREENS: Alison Johnstone MSP called yesterday for the Smith Commission on devolution to involve as many of the public as possible.

The referendum debate had “shown us that democracy begins at street level,” she said.

Like the SNP, the Greens have grown massively since September 18’s vote — with nearly 4,000 new members taking total membership to over 5,600.

HOUSING: Homeless mums have hit back at East London council who called them “agitators and hangers on.”

Members of Focus E15 campaign — who have recently occupied an empty block of council flats to highlight homelessness in the borough — were faced with the vitriolic statement from Newham councillor and mayoral housing advisor Andrew Baikie.

Mr Baikie called the occupation as “petty, expensive stunt” and promised to “get protesters off the estate.”

OVERCROWDING: 130 asylum-seekers were relocated to a hotel after the Home Office feared they would overcrowd other accommodations.

The lodgers are expected to stay for around two weeks at the Grand Burstin Hotel in Folkestone, Kent — a seafront establishment boasting “spectacular sea views.”
