Neil Adams admitted on Saturday that failing to score early on is now “my concern as it has happened too many times.”
The Norwich manager added that “performances are fantastic but we cannot rely on comebacks,” though his side have gained nine points in six games from losing positions.
A disappointing 1-1 home draw with Rotherham secured the Canaries’ seventh successive scoreless first half, with Cameron Jerome missing two chances to break the duck — both free headers.
The match changed just before half-time, when Adam Collin made an outstanding triple save, initially denying a Lewis Grabban header.
Two follow up efforts from Jerome were stopped from close range, before a clearance set Matt Derbyshire free.
John Ruddy clumsily bundled the striker over and Paul Green calmly dispatched the penalty to put Rotherham ahead.
The Canaries were often too static in their attacking movement but deservedly equalised through Jerome’s sixth goal in six games.
He pounced after a precise free kick from substitute Kyle Lafferty hit the inside of the post.
Norwich dominated play throughout, with 66 per cent possession and 27 shots, but found visiting goalkeeper Collin in outstanding form, supporting Adams’s assertion that “we are battering teams.”
Rotherham were well-organised, defended resolutely and threatened on the counterattack, showing they have enough to avoid relegation.
Norwich are now winless at home in their last four, leaving Adams “frustrated, as once again an opposition manager is telling me: ‘How the hell did we get anything from that?’”
