CAMPAIGNERS have rubbished a survey from fracking firms suggesting that the process enjoys “widespread” public backing.
They dismissed it as “another stunt designed to sell it to us.”
The survey of 4,000 people was commissioned by UK Onshore Oil and Gas, which represents the UK’s onshore oil and gas industry.
Tina Rothery is a Blackpool resident campaigning against the profiteers’ activities in Lancashire.
She said: “With more than 270 opposition groups in the UK representing in excess of the number of people interviewed here, we are very confident that if we carried out a survey we too could make a convincing news item.
“This industry is throwing huge amounts of money into the public relations, lobbying and marketing of fracking and this is just another stunt designed to sell it to us.”
She said the industry had refused to take part in a public debate.
