Adams forced to pull out of World Championships

NICOLA ADAMS has been forced to withdraw from the Women’s World Boxing Championships in South Korea in November due to injury.

The Olympic and Commonwealth champion is due to have an operation on a shoulder injury in the next two weeks which will keep her out of the ring for up to six months.

Adams had been desperate to claim the one major title that still eludes her after three consecutive world silver medals in 2008, 2010 and 2012.

Adams said: “I struggled through the Commonwealth Games so winning gold for England meant even more to me knowing I was not competing at my best.”

Adams was pushed to the limit by Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh in the women’s flyweight final in Glasgow earlier this month, which she won.
