Firefighters unveiled plans yesterday to take the campaign to defend life-saving services into communities with a 20-date all-Britain tour.
The free events will see special guests including singers and comedians join the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) at the string of events to highlight front-line cuts.
At the heart of the campaign is a bid to raise awareness of 5,000 lost jobs and 20 per cent government funding cuts and their impact on 999 services.
FBU general secretary Matt Wrack said: “Firefighters want to continue doing a great job but their profession is being undermined.
“I urge the public to come to their local event and talk to firefighters.”
First up is a September 9 date in Liverpool outside the BT Convention Centre, Kings Dock. All the events kick off at noon — visit bit.ly/1B9MITc for full dates.
- Matt Wrack has been elected unopposed as FBU general secretary yesterday to serve a third term.
