School support staff suspend strike action

LONDON school support staff facing an average £88-a-month pay cut suspended strike action after bosses tabled an 11th-hour offer yesterday.

Workers at Kidbrooke Park School, Greenwich, called off a one-day walkout set for next Tuesday to consider the proposals.

The dispute centres on demands that they lose half an hour’s pay a day and take it as an unpaid lunch break instead.

Their union GMB said that the attack on wages had come as a surprise at the end of last term.

“There has been no financial information submitted to us which states that the school is in any detrimental financial position,” said GMB official Nick Day.

He added that members were clear that if the new offer did not meet their concerns “they will have no choice but to resume the dispute.”
