FIREFIGHTERS in Scotland have demanded bosses come up with a better pay offer after raising concerns about the expansion of job responsibilities.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) had offered a 16 per cent pay rise to staff, phased over four years.

But in return it says firefighters would face cuts to payments for additional duties and for training courses.

Fire Brigades Union (FBU) leader Matt Wrack criticised the package for its “small print and about lack of detail in some areas.”

FBU Scotland secretary Denise Christie said: “We’ll consult our members on any serious final offer, but this offer was neither serious nor final.

“Firefighters deserve a pay rise, but this offer simply won’t give them enough soon enough. The employer has rightly been sent back to the drawing board.”

The SFRS is expected to make a fresh offer in the coming weeks.
