Welsh language protest graffiti artists have charges dropped

A MAGISTRATES’ court dropped bail conditions yesterday on two Welsh language activists who spray-painted slogans on government offices.

A ban on Welsh Language Society chairman Robin Farrar and former chairwoman Bethan Williams going within 50 yards of Welsh government buildings and the Welsh Assembly were dropped in a hearing at Aberystwyth magistrates’ court.

The pair face a full court hearing after being arrested for daubing “Welsh-medium education for all” on the Welsh government building in the west Wales town last month.

But Mr Farrar said he will continue the campaign to save the Welsh language this Sunday now his movements are not restricted.

Mr Farrar and other activists will start a vigil for the language — use of which was shown to be declining in last year’s census — that he plans to continue until Tuesday when First Minister Carwyn Jones is set to make a statement on the language.
