SCOTLAND’S Euro 2020 qualifying campaign got off to the worst possible start as they lost 3-0 in Kazakhstan yesterday.

Within the opening 10 minutes, the hosts were two goals up and Scotland were left stunned and startled.

The Scottish defence on both occasions were undone by one defence-splitting pass. First Yuriy Pertsukh struck a left-footed half-volley past Scott Bain after being played through by a simple ball from just inside Kazakhstan’s half.

Then Yan Vorogovskiy got on the end of an Islambek Kuat pass to double the lead before the visitors really knew what was going on.

It was a laborious performance from Scotland, who failed to respond and adapt to the surroundings. 

If they needed any inspiration about a second-half comeback, they only had to look at their rugby union counterparts last weekend against England in the Six Nations.

However, it never came and Scotland found themselves 3-0 down and out of the game minutes after the break.

Kazakhstan’s final ball wasted a counter-attack prior to the third goal. When they had the chance to deliver a quality ball moments later, Baktiyor Zainutdinov rose highest to head past Bain.
