CAMPAIGNERS took to the streets of Scotland on Saturday to call for an end to the Israeli assault on Gaza, Palestine.

A crowd of several thousand brought traffic to a halt as they marched through the centre of Edinburgh from the Mound to the First Minister’s residence at Bute House. 

A spokeswoman for Scottish Palestine Solidarity called on the Scottish and British governments to support boycott, disinvestment and sanctions and to “take steps to isolate Israel immediately.”

Labour MSP Malcolm Chisholm and human rights lawyer Amer Anwar were among speakers who addressed the marchers.

The marchers paused on Princes Street to hold a minute’s silence for around 1,000 Palestinians killed in the current outrage by the Israeli military.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Aberdeen activists held a third city centre street protest against the Gaza slaughter in as many weeks.

Unison Aberdeenshire branch secretary Kate Ramsden told the Morning Star: “This is not a war — this is a massacre and is fast becoming genocide.”
