'Impeach liar Blair,' Peter Tapsell demands

VETERAN Tory MP Peter Tapsell demanded the impeachment of Tony Blair yesterday for taking Britain into the Iraq war.

The 84-year-old Father of the House intervened at Prime Minister’s Questions to urge MPs to use their ancient powers — of disputed continuing constitutional legitimacy — against Mr Blair.

He said these powers should be activated because of the continued delay in publishing the Chilcot report on Britain’s involvement in the Iraq war.

The old-style Lincolnshire Tory demanded that former PM Mr Blair must be brought to account “for allegedly misleading the House on the necessity of the invasion of Iraq in 2003.”

Prime Minister David Cameron sidestepped the question, but went on to hype up the present-day threat of terrorist attacks in Britain arising from conflicts in Syria and Iraq.

The people seeking to set up an extremist regime in the middle of Iraq “are also planning to attack us here at home in the UK,” he declared.
