Supporter confronts Wenger as Arsenal lose to Saints

AN IRATE fan stormed the pitch and verbally assaulted Arsene Wenger during Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat away to Southampton yesterday.

Saido Mane and Dusan Tadic capitalised on Wojciech Szczesny’s mistakes to open up the gap between the two sides to three points but the match turned ugly when the fan seemed to evade stewards and security with ease and approach the dugout.

Assistant manager Steve Bould waved the invader away and security finally showed up to escort him off the pitch.

Wenger was clearly irate with the fourth official over the fact that a fan easily made it on to the pitch and towards the managers.

Wenger said in his post-match interview that the fan was a Southampton supporter but the club have since denied the claim and insisted he was an Arsenal fan who had grown tired of the poor performance by the 11 players on the pitch.

It’s not the first time angry fans have voiced their concerns towards Wenger.

After the dismal performance away to Stoke last year, a section of Gooners waited for the Arsenal manager at a train station and jeered him and the rest of the team
