STRIKING Lambeth College workers go up for adoption today as their union launches a “sponsor a striker” campaign.
As lecturers enter their fifth week of action, the college’s Unison members have started a special appeal to boost their strike fund.
“These are low paid workers only getting £15 a day in strike money,” said Lambeth Unison vice-chair Dan Jeffery.
Fellow trade unionist and members of the public have been invited to become patrons of individual workers on strike.
In return of a £35 donation supporters will receive a certificate of sponsorship, a picture and letters from the sponsored striker on developments of the dispute.
“I sponsored a Lambeth college striker as they have taken an extremely brave decision,” added Mr Jeffery.
College staff have been battling contractual changes and effective loss of pay. University and College Union members are taking indefinite strike action.
Technicians and other college Unison members will lead a second round of walkouts this week, after a two-day strike earlier this month.
