HOCKEY: England women’s hockey coach Jason Lee has stepped down less than a month before the Commonweath Games.
Last month Lee’s side posted their worst finish in a World Cup when they came 11th in Holland.
“I would like to thank those who took a chance appointing me as head coach back in 2003,” said Lee.
“It has been an honour to take teams to three Olympics and three World Cups.”
CYCLING: David Millar says he has been denied a Tour de France swansong after missing out on the final selection for Garmin-Sharp.
The 37-year-old Scot was expected to be chosen in Garmin’s final nine for his 13th and last Tour, before his retirement at the end of the season.
Millar wrote on Twitter: “@millarmind: I was selected for TdF last week, then they pulled me last night. Wiggo, Dowsett, Pete, Swifty, fancy a city break? I hear York’s nice.”
FOOTBALL: Fifa will not be taking action against Arjen Robben after he admitted diving during Holland’s 2-1 win over Mexico.
Robben reportedly apologised for diving on one occasion in the game — but not for the decisive penalty in stoppage time which he said was “definitely a foul.”
Fifa head of media Delia Fischer said the disciplinary committee would only look retrospectively at “serious infringements” of fair play rules.
FOOTBALL: Luis Suarez has been offered a short-term sanctuary in Kosovan football while he serves his four-month ban for biting.
Hajvalia have made an opportunistic offer to take Suarez on loan and with Kosovo not yet recognised as a full Fifa member, the club believe Suarez’s ban would not extend to the country’s league.
Director Xhavit Pocolli said: “We offered €30,000 (£24,000) and a salary of €1,500 (£1,200) for each month.”
