LABOUR has formally complained to the Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso) about coverage of Jeremy Corbyn’s attendance at a ceremony in Tunisia.

The party said the Daily Mail, the Express, Metro, the Sun, the Telegraph and the Times had misrepresented the event in 2014, which the papers claimed was held to honour Palestinians who killed 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Mr Corbyn’s visit was actually to commemorate 47 Palestinians who died in the 1985 Israeli bombing of the Palestine Liberation Organisation office in the Tunisian capital Tunis, said Labour.

The Guardian reported that Labour’s complaint focuses on where newspapers have specifically stated that the event was commemorating members of the Black September terrorist group or those who carried out the 1972 Munich massacre.

Under Ipso rules, if the newspapers do not offer to publish corrections a full inquiry into the accuracy of the report may have to take place.
