More than 100 Morning Star supporters gathered in Lancashire’s Clarion House on Saturday for the annual Big Red Picnic to raise funds for our paper.
Clarion House is the last surviving clubhouse of the Clarion socialist movement which thrived at the turn of the 20th century, with Clarion cycling clubs, choirs, walking groups and political campaigns.
The building sits in spectacular countryside on the lower slopes of Pendle Hill and has been restored and renovated by Friends of Clarion House, a volunteer group led by Morning Star supporters. It is owned by a trust established by the Independent Labour Party.
Stalls were run by Bradford Morning Star Readers and Supporters Group, whose banner was on display, Friends of Clarion House and the International Brigades Memorial Trust, while indoors the Red Shed Players from Wakefield’s Labour Club staged an uproarious political comedy.
The event raised £309 for the Morning Star Fighting Fund.
