LABOUR MP Hugh Gaffney received a hero’s welcome on his return to the CWU conference this weekend.
Speaking at the close of conference on Sunday evening, Mr Gaffney thanked delegates for their support in his campaign to become MP for Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill in the 2017 election.
He said: “I've waited a year to come back here [and] what a year it’s been for the CWU.
“Every step [I took] towards becoming an MP, you walked with me. The CWU are there by my side in support and in fight and in every battle I lost.”
Mr Gaffney told the conference that he was “so proud” of his old job that he even wore his old Parcel Force uniform on his first day in Westminster.
He added: “To every branch and all those who sent those messages to me saying go for it, it meant so much to me.”
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn also credited Mr Gaffney yesterday, thanking him “for all you do for the union and the party.”
