Ann Maguire stabbing accused appears in court

A teenager accused of stabbing a teacher to death in her classroom has appeared in court.

The 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Leeds Youth Court accused of murdering Ann Maguire, 61, at Corpus Christi Catholic College, Halton Moor, on Monday.

Wearing a navy-blue sweatshirt and tracksuit bottoms, he was flanked by three security officers, two men and a woman.

District Judge Roy Anderson told the defendant he would be remanded in youth detention to appear at Leeds Crown Court this morning by videolink.

The hudge said no application for bail was allowed at this hearing.

The defendant was charged with Mrs Maguire’s murder after he was arrested and interviewed under caution by police on Monday.

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed that Mrs Maguire died from multiple stab wounds.
