Serena’s domination puts in her into final

It took less than an hour, 48 minutes to be exact, for Serena Williams to power her way into tomorrow’s Wimbledon final.

To call her 6-2 6-0 victory over Elena Vesnina yesterday one way traffic would be an understatement.

This was Serena at her best. Dominant from the word go, the US athlete never gave her Russian opponent a chance to settle into the match.

Commentator John McEnroe said after that “Serena’s practice session this morning was harder than that match,” and he wasn’t lying.

In this form, Serena truly is undefeatable and she will be hoping to carry that form into tomorrow’s final against Angelique Kerber — who knocked out her sister Venus Williams.

“I’m very happy I was really focused. We’ve had a lot of tough matches before and on this surface I knew she could bring it today,” said Serena, who will be playing her ninth Wimbledon final.

“It’s never easy out there, every point you have to fight for. It’s weird, I can’t believe I’m in the final again.”

The victory was the fastest ever in a Wimbledon semi-final but tomorrow’s tie against Kerber, who defeated Serena at the Australian Open final in January, should be more of a contest as Serena continues in her quest to match Steffi Graf’s 22 major tournament victories.

“Obviously, I’m 0 for 2, so determined to get at least one this year,” Williams said.

“I mean, I think for anyone else in this whole planet, it would be a wonderful accomplishment [reaching her third Grand Slam final of the year].

“For me, it’s about, obviously, holding the trophy and winning, which would make it a better accomplishment for me. For me, it’s not enough.

“But I think that’s what makes me different.

“That’s what makes me Serena.”
