ABBY WAMBACH played her last game for the United States on Wednesday and now plans on joining Fifa to help with its halting reforms.
Wambach is the all-time leading scorer for the US, with 184 goals in 255 matches, but was unable to add to her tally as they lost 1-0 to China.
And the now-retired striker revealed in a speech after the game that she has been invited to Switzerland to help the crumbling world governing body, something she is eager to do.
She said: “I’m all for it because I have opinions and I’m not afraid to say them.”
Wambach made the news earlier this week after saying she would sack Jurgen Klinsmann, the head coach for the US men’s side, for allowing too many “foreigners” to play for the national side.
Klinsmann brought in Jermaine Jones and Fabian Johnson, both US citizens born in Germany, into the national side which fans saw as the former Tottenham striker ignoring “home-grown” talent.
“I would definitely fire Jurgen,” she said. “The way that he has brought in a bunch of these foreign guys is not something I believe in wholeheartedly.
“I don’t believe it in my heart. I love Jermaine Jones Fabian Johnson who is actually killing it after being sent home for ‘faking an injury.’
“I think this experiment that US football has given Jurgen isn’t one that personally I’m into.”
