DETECTIVES launched an investigation into a suspended Ukip candidate yesterday after he appeared to spout racial slurs and threatened to shoot an Asian political opponent.
Ukip’s North East Hampshire parliamentary candidate Robert Blay was given the boot by the right-wing party after he was videoed making the comments about Tory rival Ranil Jayawardena.
Hampshire Police confirmed it was reviewing the comments as part of “initial inquiries” but added that no arrests had been made.
Mr Blay made his remarks after the Daily Mirror quizzed him about Mr Jayawardena — tipped as Britain’s first Asian prime minister.
The Ukip candidate reportedly replied: “If he is, I will personally put a bullet between his eyes. If this lad turns up to be our prime minister I will personally put a bullet in him. That’s how strong I feel about it.
“I won’t have this f***** as our prime minister. I absolutely loathe him.”
Questioning Mr Jayawardena’s background, he accused his rival’s father of having come to Britain from Sri Lanka and “ponced off us … like all the east Europeans are.”
Ukip deputy chairwoman Suzanne Evans said she would push the party to toughen up its vetting of candidates following the allegations.
