Boxing: Fury let off for anti-gay and sexist comments

TYSON FURY escaped punishment yesterday for sexist and homophobic comments he made last year, with the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) saying he is entitled to free speech.

In the build up to his shock victory over Wladimir Klitschko, Fury said that in order for the world to end homosexuality, abortion and paedophilia had to be made legal.

He also claimed that a woman’s best place is “in the kitchen” and “on her back.”

Despite calls for Fury to be stripped of his titles and punished, the BBBoC said that “there is no suggestion that he has broken the law by exercising his right to freedom of expression.”

The statement also said Fury had been reminded of his “heavy responsibilities” while saying that “the stewards of the British Boxing Board of Control have been advised that it cannot interfere with his basic human rights.”
