Stop selling Israel arms, say Jewish activists

JEWISH pro-Palestine activists in Manchester demanded an end to arms trading between Britain and Israel yesterday, saying it makes this country complicit in Israeli war crimes.

The demand was backed by 21 organisations and prominent individuals in north-west England, including peace groups, anti-war campaigners, Palestine solidarity organisations and Jewish Labour MP Gerald Kaufman.

Manchester Jews for Justice for Palestinians made the call an open letter signed by the groups.

The letter notes that Israel’s crimes against the Palestinian people — such as last year’s horrific assault on Gaza, which killed 2,100 people — are well known.

“What is less well known is that the UK has been aiding and abetting Israel’s crimes against the Palestinian people,” it says.

Since 2010, the government has granted licences for more than £42 million in exports of British military hardware to Israel, with over £10m agreed in 2013 alone.
