ENERGY giant Npower was under pressure yesterday to come clean over rumours it plans to sack up to 2,500 people — more than a fifth of its workforce in Britain.
The company, which employs 11,500 people in Britain, has refused to confirm the cuts but is expected to break the news to staff on Tuesday.
That is when Npower’s German parent company, RWE, will confirm accounts that show it made losses of about £155 million in 2015.
Reports suggest sales and marketing roles, most based at Npower’s headquarters in Swindon, will be the worst hit.
Unite union national officer Kevin Coyne said staff deserved urgent answers over the “unsettling” reports.
He said: “These are people with bills to pay and mouths to feed and deserve better than finding out via leaks to the media that they could be out of a job next week.”
