Lucas joins Greece rally

GREEN MP Caroline Lucas will join Syriza representatives at a Greece solidarity rally in London tonight.

Greece Solidarity Campaign’s rally for action came ahead of the first Monday after the European Central Bank (ECB) threatened to cut off all funding to Greece.

A referendum on a EU-proposed debt repayment package will be put to the Greek people on July 5.

Syriza spokeswoman Marina Prentoulis said: “The Greek government is not going to accept any more blackmail.

“The ECB’s decision is not going to influence our decision to have a referendum.

“This is a matter of democracy, not only for Greece but for all the peoples of Europe.”

Journalist Owen Jones and Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament’s Kate Hudson will also speak at the rally.
