Homeowners on rise

HOMEMAKERS owning their property outright have for the first time surpassed those with mortgages, government figures revealed yesterday.

According to new figures by the English Housing Survey, those homeowners without a mortgage have become the largest tenure group, while over four million families now live in privately rented accommodation.

Private renters are also the ones cashing out the most for their homes, with most spending almost half of their salaries on rent.
