NEW hope for dementia sufferers was confirmed yesterday with the investment of more than £1 million by three charities, writes Alana MacAskill.
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Comic Relief and the Life Changes Trust are pooling £1.1m to help give dementia sufferers a louder voice by continuing the Dementia Engagement and Empowerment Project (Deep).
The nationwide project challenges the stigmatising and stereotyping of people with dementia as well as improving services for them and the communities that they live in.
There are about 850,000 people living with dementia in Britain, according to the Alzheimer Society statistics. The number is expected to be around one million by 2025.
