Red flags, red faces and a Saga holiday

Labour Party conference diary with Conrad Landin and Luke James

- WITH Labour conference kicking off and Wales’s win at Twickenham, the red flag is truly flying high this weekend.
Star staff watched the Rugby World Cup clash alongside two Labour MPs from the north of England.
We can confirm that both stood (because there were no free seats) in an ambivalent silence during God Save the Queen.

- THE Star bumped into one member of Labour’s national executive looking less than fresh-faced yesterday.

Only hours into conference, we enquired after their welfare, wondering whether they’d already been enjoying Brighton’s nightlife.
But they replied: “The NEC meets every day at seven-fucking-thirty. I haven’t been able to go clubbing.”

- AS THE left’s woman on Labour’s procedure committee, Ann Black has been scrutinising the “Labour purge.”
One meeting with the Trot Finder Generals was scheduled on the day Black departed Dover on a Saga cruise at 4pm.
Not to be outdone on dedication, she planned to join the meeting which started at 3.30pm via telephone.
“I thought that’s great, we’ll be wrapped up in half an hour. But then they called a lifeboat drill at 3.30pm. So I was in my life jacket on deck taking part in the meeting. But then the ferry left and my phone cut out.”
Don’t blame Black if you’ve been banned. She tried.
