PM unveils strategy to take on extremism

DAVID CAMERON will unveil a new “counter-extremism strategy” today to prevent young people being radicalised.

It will expand powers to take passports from under-18s who might join extremist groups abroad and ban radical preachers from posting material online.

And anyone with a conviction or civil order for terrorist activity will be barred from working with children and vulnerable people.

The PM has already pledged to funnel £5 million to private charities as part of the plan.

Shadow home secretary Andy Burnham said the government needs to get “the balance right.”

He urged Mr Cameron to “correct” an implication this summer “that the whole Muslim community ‘quietly condones’ extremism,” calling on the PM to “build bridges.”
