Cricket: England set for defeat in Dubai

ENGLAND are fighting to avoid defeat in the second Test against Pakistan in Dubai, closing on 130-3 yesterday in their chase of an astronomical 491.

Resuming on 222-3 in their second innings the hosts lost captain Misbah-ul-Haq without adding to his overnight 87, falling to James Anderson, who took 2-22.

Asad Shafiq then hit 79 while Younis Kahn struck 118. Pakistan declared on 354-6.

England were 19-2 after openers Alistair Cook and Moeen Ali both went cheaply before Joe Root and Ian Bell shared a century stand, but the Warwickshire batsman fell late on, forcing Jonny Bairstow to bat until stumps.

Pakistan’s collosal lead builds on England’s collapse for 242 in the first innings — 136 behind.
