Cardiff trade unionists celebrate May Day

OVER 300 trade union members turned out in Cardiff on Saturday to celebrate international workers’ day.

Cardiff Trades Council member Ramon Corria said the bumper turnout showed “how angry people are about the Con-Dem’s class based austerity programme.”

Striking firefighters joined members of all Welsh trade unions and community campaigners from groups including Cardiff and South Wales Against the Bedroom Tax.

They marched through the heart of the Welsh capital to a rally at the city’s civic centre.

Fire Brigades Union Wales secretary Cerith Griffiths said the solidarity sent from the rally was a huge boost to comrades about to take their second day’s strike action over government attacks on their pensions.
