Kosovo: PM moves towards EU deal

PRIME Minister Isa Mustafa signed a stabilisation and association agreement with the EU yesterday, a major step towards membership of the federation.

The signing took place at the Strasbourg office of EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, who called it a “very important step that has implied a lot, a lot, of work on both sides.”

“Now it is about implementation,” said EU enlargement commissioner Johannes Hahn, who will visit Kosovo next week.

Thursday’s session of parliament, due to be addressed by Austrian President Heinz Fischer, has been cancelled in fear of further disruption by opposition parties’ members, who have previously thrown tear-gas grenades and eggs.
