Women's Football: England end China tournament with a win

Isobel Christiansen’s second-half strike was enough to secure England a 1-0 victory over Australia in their final game of the Dewellbon Cup in China yesterday.

England, who handed midfielder Jill Scott her 100th cap, had lost their opening match of the tournament to host nation China on Friday but responded well against the Matildas.

The closest either side came to breaking the deadlock in the first half saw Eni Aluko crash an effort against the bar eight minutes before the interval.

But Manchester City midfielder Christiansen fired home an angled finish after being played in by club teammate Lucy Bronze six minutes after the break.

Scott, also of Manchester City, had the chance to mark her milestone with a goal but hit two efforts over the bar as the match wore on.
