NICARAGUAN journalist Angel Gahona has been shot dead during a live broadcast of anti-government protests.
Mr Gahona was broadcasting live on Facebook, covering demonstrations in the coastal town of Bluefields when he was fired at.
He slumped to the ground after being hit by the bullet and footage showed people running towards him screaming his name.
It is not clear who shot Mr Gahona, who was reporting on damage to a cash machine when the incident occurred.
President Daniel Ortega claimed the anti-government protests have been orchestrated by small group of right-wing opposition agitators. His offer of talks was rejected, with protest leaders saying the violence must stop first.
At least 10 people are believed to have died during the protests against pension changes approved by the government on Wednesday.
Government buildings have been attacked and students at the Polytechnic University in Nicaragua’s capital Managua have occupied their campus.
The government said the situation was now under control.
