A HEALTH service privateer has pulled out of a multimillion-pound contract after failing to make it pay.
As a result the jobs of hundreds of cleaners, porters, housekeepers and others are to be transferred back into NHS employment.
The 700 jobs at Brighton and Sussex University Hospital NHS Trust were taken over by privateer Sodexo in 2013 in a five-year £15 million contract.
Sodexo declared 96 redundancies with 30 days’ notice — just under the 100 figure which would have merited 90 days’ notice.
The company also attacked wages and conditions.
But the workforce resisted with ballots on industrial action.
Sodexo has now announced it will be pulling out of the contract on July 31 and the jobs will be taken back in-house by the NHS Trust, which runs Brighton’s Royal Sussex County hospital and Princess Royal hospital at Haywards Heath.
