Blatter compared to Moses, Jesus and Churchill

Sepp Blatter was likened to a host of historical figures including Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill and even Jesus by Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) members on Thursday.

The strange comparisons were made at the Concacaf congress in which Blatter received more support as the Fifa presidency elections edge closer.

Dominican Republic FA president Osiris Guzman said Blatter, who is running for his fifth term as president, was like “Moses, Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King.”

As the Swiss was lavished with praise, his rivals ex-Portugal international Luis Figo, Dutch FA chief Michael van Praag and Jordanian Ali bin al-Hussein were made to sit and listen.

The Trinidad & Tobago Football Association called Blatter the “father of football,” while the leaders of football federations from Jamaica, Haiti, Turks & Caicos, Cuba, Panama, St Vincent & the Grenadines and Puerto Rico vowed to vote for the 79-year-old.

The election will take place in Zurich on May 30.
