It took under a minute for the first try to be scored in round 12 of Super League XX, when Wakefield gave Wigan an early shock in Thursday’s game at Belle Vue.
Matt Ryan’s run set up full-back Craig Hall for the Wildcats’ early try but Wigan recovered quickly, responding with two tries of their own in the first 15 minutes.
The Warriors returned from their trip across the Pennines with two points, in a 40-22 win which saw a hat-trick of tries from winger Joe Burgess, who will be taking the considerably longer journey to Sydney Roosters in Australia’s NRL competition next season.

Two of the Wolves’ tries came from unusual sources as forwards Ben Currie and Ben Harrison produced accurate kicks into the corner, which were collected for tries by wingers Gene Ormsby and Joel Monahhan respectively.
A late drop goal from Warrington’s Declan Patton took the final score to 29-10, capping what was another encouraging performance from the young half-back.
Saturday’s only game took place at the Stade Gilbert Brutus in France, where Catalans defeated Hull KR by 32 points to 24. The sides went in at half-time with the scores at 16-12, and both notched up the same points tally in the second period, giving the Dragons two points which lifts them back in the top 8.
The final game of the round saw a depleted Salford side lose narrowly at home to Castleford by 22 points to 20. Nineteen-year-old Ash Robson scored the try which eventually won the game for the Tigers but it was a good showing from the Red Devils who were missing a total of 12 players through injury or suspension.
