UN bargaining rights survive

UNITED Nations secretary-general Ban Ki Moon backed down from threats to strip UN workers of collective bargaining rights because of international action against the plan, the GFTU conference heard yesterday.
James Ohayo of the the co-ordinating committee of international staff unions said that  thousands of letters of support from unions across the world — including the GFTU — had come flooding in.
The campaign persuaded UN bosses to retain a staff management system that allows representation to both workers and bosses.
