United States 'No to Marxism' organisers run scared of anti-fascists

Far right calls off second rally in two days

Organisers of a “No to Marxism in America” rally in the Californian city of Berkeley yesterday urged supporters to stay away to avoid clashes with anti-fascist protesters.

The cancellation followed that of the Patriot Prayer rally in nearby San Francisco on Saturday. City Mayor Ed Lee said hate was chased out with love.

No to Marxism organiser Amber Cummings, a supporter of President Donald Trump, said she would be the sole attendee at the event.

Ms Cummings and Patriot Prayer leader Joey Gibson have repeatedly denounced racism.

Mr Gibson downgraded his Saturday rally to a news conference at a San Francisco park, but relocated to a suburban location when police swarmed the park and city workers erected a fence around it.

Patriot Prayer supporter Will Johnson, a black man, objected to the event being described as “white supremacist.”

“We're here in the middle of nowhere because we don't want the violence,” he said.
