Anti-racists will gather to oppose EDL fascists’ rally

ANTI-RACIST campaigners are gathering in Leeds today to counter a demonstration by the fascist English Defence League (EDL).

The EDL plans to demonstrate outside the BBC’s Leeds studios at St Peter’s Square near Leeds city centre at 2pm.

Leeds Unite Against Fascism (UAF) has organised a counter-demonstration which will assemble at 1pm outside West Yorkshire Playhouse, close to to the BBC North studios.

Sally Kincaid of Leeds UAF said the EDL has been attempting to exploit the tragic events of sex grooming in Rotherham in South Yorkshire, “to demonise those who don’t share their many hatreds, whether they be Muslims, gays or just anti-racists — anyone, in fact, who does not share their narrow, hate-filled view of the world.”

She added: “Unite Against Fascism will always challenge the EDL and other extreme right-wing groups wherever and whenever they show their face.”
