Foul-mouthed rant from earl

Court: The Earl of Cardigan, David Brudenell-Bruce, 61, sent emails describing a former friend as a “pedant,” a “stupid man,” “scum,” a “creature” and a “thief,” the High Court has heard.

He also sent a message suggesting that barristers’ clerk John Moore, a former chairman of a local Tory Party branch, should “piss off,” a judge was told.

The details emerged in a ruling published yesterday by Mr Justice Newey following the latest round of litigation centred on the earl’s ancient family estate at Savernake near Marlborough, Wiltshire.

Unite takes the Sun to press watchdog

Media: The Sun could face action from Britain’s press regulator after the paper refused to give the Unite union a chance to respond to allegations in a recent attack article.

Unite referred the newspaper to the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) after what it labelled the “latest slur on a union representing hundreds of thousands of decent working people.”

Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said: “Such are the lengths that the Sun will go to smear Unite that it denies the union even a basic defence. In so doing, this paper once again abuses its position in public life.”

Care UK workers to vote on deal

Strike: Heroic Care UK workers involved in a long-running dispute over pay are to vote on an offer aimed at resolving the row.

Bosses revealed the deal would see employees receive an immediate 2 per cent pay rise backdated to October 2014.

Unison general secretary Dave Prentis said: “The proposal put forward by Care UK has been the result of the commitment of our members, tough negotiations and strong support from the local community.”

Election: Tory support has collapsed by four points in the latest poll ahead of the Rochester and Strood by-election. A Survation poll for the Daily Mirror shows 27 per cent of people who voted Tory at the 2010 general election prepared to switch to Ukip.
